Grove Street Cable Renewal
Project Description
SCD was contracted to provide a 3km duct and cable renewal service within the vicinity of Huddersfield town centre on behalf of Northern Power Grid. SCD was commissioned to install three x 160mm (trefoil formation) ducts to connect two substations with 33kV cable.
SCD began the project by conducting feasibility studies to find the best and most direct route from substation to substation, whilst minimising disruption to traffic and local residents and businesses. Following the study, SCD nominated the best route for Northern Power Grid’s approval. SCD began conducting feasibility trial holes at pinch points along the designated route to ascertain where the proposed duct installation route was feasible.
Throughout the project, SCD established and maintained a successful, working relationship with Kirklees County Council to ensure that any of the planning obstacles were overcome with minimal disruption to the community and motorists along the route. This included work outside a number of schools, places of worship and outside the main fire station serving the town. The selected route also saw SCD carry out excavation works on Manchester Road, which is the main arterial route through Huddersfield. All of these required close coordination, at times on an hourly basis, with the organisations involved both prior to and throughout the project.
