A1 Traffic Light Signal Renewal

Project Description

Following the successful management and completion of the A63 Traffic Light Signal Upgrade scheme in Hull, SCD was contracted to complete the traffic light signal upgrade at the busy North Brunton roundabout on the A1, just north of Newcastle.

As principal contractor of the project, SCD removed more than 35 traffic signals, which were placed into temporary foundations. This allowed the excavation and installation of NAL sockets for the new poles, the fitting of which was sub-contracted by SCD to Siemens. SCD then completed all associated UTC cabinet base and installation works.

SCD installed all duct and trench work and full reinstatement of the site, including anti-skid approaches to all junctions, tactile paving at all pedestrian crossings and relevant kerbing.

The three month project was undertaken on nights to ensure disruption to the busy interchange was kept to a minimum., and the detailed planning and close liaison with all parties resulted in the scheme being delivered ahead of programme.
