132kV Cable Renewal in Derby

Project Description

Following the on-going successes of the Creyke Beck scheme, SCD was successful in completing a 132kV cable renewal project, running through Derby City Centre.

Renewing the 132kV dual circuit cable between the substation at Derby Cathedral and the old power station site at Willington, SCD were routed across a number of busy trunk roads. Much of the 10km installation was carried out on nights and during restricted hours, and close liaison with the council meant many last minute changes to the challenging programme.

Prior to SCD being taken on board, the project had fallen behind. However, good progress on site has resulted in the installation to be completed by the target date. Our performance resulted in SCD being awarded the cable installation contract for the scheme.

Both aspects of the project have since been completed.

Project Summary

  • Installation of 10km 132kV dual circuit, with fibre pilot.

  • Reinstatement of pathways and carriageways in accordance with NRSWA.

  • Close working relationships required with clients and councils.
