Wind Farm Connection in Alnwick

Working alongside the A1, SCD was contracted to complete the installation of a 66kV and fibre optic cable to provide the Wind Farm connection to the grid.

Consisting of 18 turbines, each at a height of 125 metres, the project based in Alnwick, Northumberland, was to generate 54MW for the grid, equivalent to 27,000 homes. This power is more than enough to feed every home in the surrounding Alnwick and Berwick areas.

SCD completed the trench excavation, duct and cable installation, which was routed on a busy 13.5km stretch of the A1(M).

Close liaison with the Highways Agency, local councils and farmers meant that this tough scheme was completed in the winter months and during anti-social hours to ensure minimal disruption to the local communities.
